Job Title: MRI Technologist Job Specialty: MRI Job Duration: 13
weeks Shift: Night Shift, Monday - Thursday, 7:00 pm - 5:30 am
Guaranteed Hours: 40.00 Experience: Minimum years of experience
required License: Graduate of an accredited two-year AMA-approved
program in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology or active
enrollment in an ARMRIT or ARRT registry eligible program required.
Certifications: ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology, ARRT
or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine with advanced registry from the
ARMRIT or ARRT in MRI required within one year of hire; CPR
certification required. Must-Have: Scan a wide variety of
in-patient and emergency department patients, mostly adults with
occasional pediatric patients from the emergency department. Help
maintain a safe MRI environment. Job Description: - Perform
procedures following departmental protocols and standards with a
high level of proficiency in operating MRI scanners and associated
equipment. - Examine requests and verify orders for each assigned
patient; consult with the Radiologist for discrepancies and contact
the ordering provider when needed. - Properly identify patients
using two patient identifiers and assist them, providing a brief
explanation of the procedures. - Prepare patients for procedures
with full explanations and document on appropriate worksheets. -
Interview patients for a complete medical history and review
various medical records to obtain pertinent clinical history. -
Correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam
being performed. - Assume responsibility for the exam from start to
completion of dictated results. - Prepare and administer IV
contrast per departmental protocols and record contrast type and
amount as requested. - Evaluate the technical quality of images and
consult with a Radiologist if needed; recognize abnormal anatomy
and process additional/reconstructed images and/or measurements as
instructed. - Perform basic patient care functions and inform
appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient's
condition. - Initiate life support measures for patients when
necessary and assist in code blue procedures during medical
emergencies. - Perform MRI scanning and assist physicians/physician
assistants during invasive procedures using proper sterile
techniques. - Practice principles of radiation safety for self,
employees, patients, and family members; adhere to radiation safety
standards. - Report malfunctioning equipment to the department
supervisor and clinical engineering/radiology engineer. - Maintain
knowledge and skills necessary to work safely in environments that
pose exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases. -
Follow hospital fire and safety procedures, attend all in-service
classes, and complete all required safety modules. - Operate the
radiology computer system to enter orders and charge for
procedures/supplies and document contrast administration in the
Medical Administration Record (MAR). - Keep assigned work areas
neat, orderly, and completely stocked, promoting cleanliness in the
workplace. - Assist other medical personnel, such as anesthesia
staff, when performing exams or services in conjunction with an MRI
scan. - Maintain knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for staff
and patients in and around magnetic fields.
