Job Title: CVOR Surgical Tech Job Specialty: Operating Room Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Guaranteed Hours: 36.00 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience with cardiac surgery License: Not specified Certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC) required; CST preferred Must-Have: - Experience with robotics and vascular surgery - Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or successful completion of a military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist Job Description: - Applies surgical technology skills to assist in providing patient care in the surgical suite while maintaining a safe work environment. - Ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and constantly maintains the sterile field. - Possesses thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application. - Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments before, during, and after surgical procedures. - Assists the Registered Nurse circulator in preparation of the patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, and equipment, and ensures proper disposition of all specimens. - Performs duties according to department policy and procedure. - Monitors surgical supplies for sterility prior to use and ensures that supplies are used judiciously; documents charges accurately. - Monitors and documents sterilization activities for completion. - Attends in-services and staff meetings; exhibits knowledge of current department-related issues and participates in the Performance Improvement Process. - Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals. - Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standards. Physical Requirements: - Works with occasional intermittent noise and exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, and chemicals. - Requires communication and writing abilities. - Strenuous physical effort is required, including walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, and squatting or kneeling while performing tasks. - May involve lengthy periods of standing. - Requires frequent use of side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling. - Must be able to lift and support up to 35 pounds. - Requires use of both hands and all fingers for gripping, speed work, and precision during operation of equipment/instruments and movement/positioning of surgical patients. - Requires vision and hearing for distances of up to 20 feet, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish basic colors. - Must be able to work lengthy, irregular hours, rotating shifts, on hard surfaces, and around moving equipment. - Exposure to changes in temperature, humidity, and Blood Borne Pathogens.
